TRIKES ALLOWED ON MAIN STREET AT LEESBURG BIKEFEST
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 22, 2012
Leesburg, FL – Main Street has always been “ Motorcycles Only” during the Leesburg Bikefest and bikes park on both sides of the street and in the middle. The small corridor of travel space that remains is too small for many Trike motorcycles to fit comfortably and the risk of a traveling Trikes to hit parked motorcycles is high, so event coordinators have traditionally not allowed Trikes down Main Street for safety reasons. However, this year Trikes with a width of 53” or less will now be allowed on Main Street between 9th and Canal at the riders risk.
Additionally, to accommodate handicapped permitted Trike motorcycle riders, Leesburg Bikefest is providing free Trike parking in the heart of town at the NW corner of Magnolia and 6th Street. For non-handicapped permitted Trike riders, there are two different areas designated for Trike motorcycles. Street parking will be available Friday – Sunday along Magnolia Street between 9th and 5th, and additional spaces have been made available by Economy Towing in their lot for Friday and Saturday at 400 N. Canal Street.
“We had numerous meetings with an informal committee of both non-handicapped and handicapped Trike riders to address the solutions for the increased population of Trike riding individuals”, stated Joe Shipes, Executive Director of the Leesburg Partnership. “Every effort has been made to ensure the designated Main Street motorcycle parking be kept in a pre-lined and marked area, so available space will remain consistent as riders travel up and down Main Street”.
For Additional information on Trike only parking spaces in the Economy Towing lot, contact Tiny at 352-250-9601.
For additional information regarding the handicapped permitted Trike parking and Trike only spaces, as well as the ability for the free wheel chair usage, on a first come first served basis, contact the Leesburg Partnership at 352-365-0053.
